The GeoTagger provides you with various ways to add geo-location information to the pictures you take
on your mobile device.

What geo-location information does it add?
By current definition, GeoTagging (sometimes also referred to as geocoding) a picture refers to
adding to it, at a minimum, the Latitude,Longitude and Altitude of the camera at the time it took that
picture.

How is it added
The most portable way to add this information today is to add it into the EXIF header of pictures
when stored in the JPEG format. This is the same place where other picture meta-data is stored, like
the time the picture was taken etc. This makes the location information a part of the image file,
so it does have to be maintained separately.

Why would someone do this?
GeoTagging is very popular nowadays as it allows placing pictures on a map.

How do I install it?
The easiest way is to first install or update to the latest version of
GPSToday
on your device, then from the Map -> More menu, select "GeoTag Pictures".
This will begin the installation process for the GeoTagger add-on.

Does geotagging add a visible timestamp or location information to the picture?
No. The visible part of the picture itself remains untouched.

What do I do with the pictures after geotagging them?
Visit a site like Flickr to get ideas.

I uploaded my geotagged picture to Flickr, but Flickr does not recognize the geotag. What gives?
In Flickr privacy settings, you must uncheck the option "Hide EXIF Data". Geotagged pictures you subsequently
upload will now be recognized as you expect.

Does GeoTerrestrial GeoTagger automatically upload pictures to Flickr or some other site?
Not yet.

Can the GeoTagger work standalone without GPSToday?
No. The GeoTagger relies upon GPSToday to fetch the current GPS fix, and to allow the user to browse a
map to set the desired location to be geotagged into pictures etc.

How does the GeoTagger interface with the camera application on my device?
It does not. It works by monitoring the folder to which pictures are written as jpg files.

Can I run the GeoTagger so it geotags my pictures automatically as soon as I take them?
Absolutely. Typically, new pictures are geotagged within 4-5 seconds of being taken, if a recent GPS fix
is available.

What if the GPS fix is outdated when I take a picture?
Not to worry. If the fix is too old when you take a picture, the GeoTagger notifies GPSToday to immediately
fetch a new quickfix. GPSToday then delivers the updated fix to the GeoTagger, which uses it to geotag
recently taken pictures and pictures taken in the near future.

What if I am indoors or in an area without a GPS signal when I take a picture?
Easy. Browse the map to your current location, and tap on "Set As My Location" in the menu.
This will be accepted by the GeoTagger as a current fix. You can do this before taking some
pictures, or you can do it even after taking the pictures, its your choice!

If I run the GeoTagger in automatic mode, will it reduce battery life?
No, the effect will be negligible, as it does not consume any CPU while waiting for new pictures.
